Kavitha demands 250 sq yards for Telangana activists, warns of statewide protest

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi President K. Kavitha launched a land agitation in Karimnagar on Wednesday, demanding the immediate allotment of 250 square yards of house-site land to each Telangana movement activist. The demand is based on a promise made by the Congress party during the election campaign.

Before starting the protest, Kavitha paid floral tributes to Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s statue at Algunur Chowrasta. She then proceeded to Manakondur, where activists occupied five acres of government land near the local police station. They erected huts to symbolically mark the beginning of the agitation.

Kavitha vows state-wide struggle if demands not met

Addressing the gathering, Kavitha said she had warned the government of a land protest if the commitment wasn’t honoured by December 9. With no action taken, she launched the agitation from Karimnagar. She added that the movement would soon spread to Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and other districts.

“Telangana was achieved through the sacrifices of activists. The promised 250 square yards must be allotted without delay. We will not accept excuses about committee formations,” she said.

She accused the government of neglecting genuine activists while favouring those who had opposed the statehood movement. Kavitha also criticised the authorities for failing to implement key commitments like pensions, a welfare board, and housing land.

Referring to martyr families, she said nearly 1,200 people gave their lives for Telangana, but only 540 families had received any benefits. She noted that these families were not even honoured on state occasions such as June 2, August 15, or January 26.

Calling for unity, Kavitha said activists across Telangana have joined under one forum. They are now demanding their rightful share with dignity. She urged the government to act on data submitted by the Activists’ Forum and fulfil all promises.

She concluded by stating the agitation would remain peaceful but would continue until the government delivers justice.
