Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao said the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme had once again demonstrated its engineering value by reviving the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) flood canal through reverse pumping.
In a statement on Tuesday, Rama Rao said reverse pumping operations from the Rampur and Rajeshwararaopet pump houses along the flood canal were providing assured irrigation to nearly two lakh acres.
Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme supports irrigation
Rama Rao said the ongoing operations highlighted the operational strength of the Irrigation Scheme. According to him, farmers were receiving irrigation water through the reverse pumping system.
He also criticised the Congress government for its criticism of the project. He said political campaigns sought to discredit Kaleshwaram. However, he claimed that farmers witnessing water reaching their fields knew the project’s actual performance.
Rama Rao said authorities started operations across the broader Kaleshwaram lifting network after heavy inflows into the Godavari River. Consequently, the system enabled the strategic diversion and distribution of water to reservoirs and irrigation projects across Telangana.
He maintained that the project continued to demonstrate its engineering capability through its operational performance during the current inflow season.
