Hyderabad: Telangana Congress working president Jagga Reddy said injustice was continuing in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant issue, while blaming political leadership and public apathy.
Addressing a media conference in Vijayawada, Jagga Reddy said voters were repeatedly supporting leaders who practised caste-based politics. As a result, he said, people were harming their own future by ignoring key public issues.
Recalling history, he said former prime minister Indira Gandhi had given the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to the nation. Therefore, protecting the public sector unit was now the responsibility of the people. Meanwhile, he pointed out that steel plant workers continued to protest on the streets.
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant workers remain on roads
Jagga Reddy alleged that Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were only enacting political drama on public platforms. However, he questioned why people were not demanding answers from them on the privatisation of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
According to him, the public had forgotten that Visakhapatnam steel was the rightful claim of Andhra people. Even after chief ministers changed, he said, workers’ tents remained on the roads. Moreover, Jagga Reddy stated that despite friendly ties between Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Pawan Kalyan, and Modi, the privatisation process had not stopped. Consequently, his remarks triggered fresh political debate in Andhra Pradesh.
