Hyderabad: Shadnagar police on Friday arrested an interstate burglar accused in over 300 house theft cases across five Indian states. The arrest was made in connection with a burglary reported last month in Ganj Road, Shadnagar.
According to Town CI K. Vijay Kumar, the accused targeted locked houses at night. On December 20, one Vannada Ashok locked his house and left for Hyderabad to get medical treatment for a relative. Upon returning on January 23, Ashok found the locks broken and valuables missing. A complaint was lodged with the Shadnagar police the same day.
Shadnagar police recover 3.5 tolas of stolen gold
A special investigation team led by CI Vijay Kumar, under the supervision of DCP Ch. Surekha and ACP S. Lakshminarayana, began probing the case using technical evidence from the crime scene. Investigators identified and detained the accused, Ashok Kulkarni alias Sachin Manne, a resident of Pune district in Maharashtra, on Thursday.
During interrogation, Kulkarni admitted to committing the burglary at Ganj Road. Police recovered 3.5 tolas of stolen gold from his possession, including a gold chain, a pair of earrings, and three rings.
CI Vijay Kumar revealed that Kulkarni had previously been involved in over 300 house burglaries across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
He also credited crime constables Ravinder, Mohan, Karunakar, Zakir, Raju, and Santosh for their role in solving the case. The constables will be recommended for rewards from higher officials.
