Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy directed officials to identify land for Indiramma Towers on a war footing while protecting government land. He also ordered them to complete the selection of double-bedroom house beneficiaries in Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts by the end of the month.
The minister reviewed the plans at the Dr BR Ambedkar Secretariat on Friday. District collectors, revenue divisional officers and Housing Department officials attended the meeting. They discussed land identification, construction plans and beneficiary selection. Ponguleti stressed that officials must follow a transparent process and ensure fair treatment for every eligible applicant.
The minister instructed officials to use specialised software developed by the Housing Corporation to conduct a computerised draw. The same method must apply across Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts. Officials must enter all applicants’ details into the software before conducting the online draw.
He said the system would improve transparency. Ponguleti also asked officials to livestream the draw and upload the proceedings to YouTube. Applicants who could not watch the live broadcast would then be able to check the results later.
Indiramma Towers plan prioritises homes near existing neighbourhoods
The government launched the Indiramma Towers initiative in line with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s vision. The plan aims to house poor families living within the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) limits near their current neighbourhoods. This approach seeks to prevent disruption to their livelihoods.
Ponguleti said providing homes to poor families remained a major government priority. He directed officials to coordinate their work and take responsibility for each stage. They must follow a clear plan from land identification through the start of construction. He also stressed that officials must protect government land when choosing sites.
The government aims to construct one lakh houses within the CURE limits. In the first phase, it plans to build around 500 houses in each constituency.
The minister asked collectors to speed up land identification for two or three constituencies that still needed sites for the first phase. He also directed them to identify land in advance for the second and third phases in the remaining constituencies.
Officials must regularly check land availability, site suitability and other project requirements, Ponguleti said. He urged them to plan ahead for both current and future phases.
The review covered construction under Indiramma Towers, land requirements for the second and third phases, and the selection of double-bedroom house beneficiaries. Ponguleti reiterated that officials must complete the beneficiary selection process by the end of the month.
