Hyderabad: IndiGo cancelled more than 170 flights across India for the second straight day on Thursday, citing crew shortages and ongoing technical problems. The disruptions hit major airports including Hyderabad, Delhi, and Mumbai, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.
At Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), 33 departures and 35 arrivals were cancelled. On Wednesday, the airline had already cancelled 19 departures and 21 arrivals at the same airport.
Despite operating nearly 2,200 flights each day, IndiGo struggled to maintain basic services. Passengers faced long waits, missed connections, and mounting frustration. Many demanded quick answers and corrective action from the airline.
Airport staff and aviation officials faced pressure to address the situation. Travellers urged authorities to intervene and prevent further disruptions.
IndiGo flights cancelled amid staff and system breakdowns
The airline, India’s largest by market share, remained unable to recover from the crisis. Staff shortages continued to paralyse operations, even as demand remained high.
Travel groups and consumer bodies called for transparency and contingency planning. They pushed IndiGo to explain the disruptions and outline steps to avoid a repeat.
