Hyderabad: Hydraa halted a major attempt to take over Kondapur public-space land and reclaimed nearly 4 acres reserved for parks and public utilities. The team fenced the entire stretch and placed signboards marking it for public use. With land prices in the area reaching almost ₹200 crore per acre, the protected land carried an estimated value close to ₹700 crore.
Sri Venkateswara HAL Colony took shape in the 1980s across 57.20 acres with 627 plots. Its approved layout earmarked 1.20 acres each for two parks, a 2-acre park, and 1,000 sq. yards for public utilities. Over time, encroachers converted these open spaces into plots and sold them. Residents fought the issue for decades and finally approached Hydraa through the Prajavani platform.
High Court orders drive action on Kondapur public-space land
Hydraa began an inquiry after receiving the complaint and guidance from the High Court. During the inspection, officials found that park areas had been divided into plots and sold. Influential individuals, including Abbineni Anasuya and others, created these layouts in the 1980s using GPA agreements through YBK Rao. Later, buyers regularised these plots through LRS and BRS.
Residents said NRIs funded several of these deals. Developers such as Simha and Vasavi eventually took over the plots. They also told Hydraa that bouncers blocked them from entering or even viewing the park spaces. The RWA approached the High Court, which instructed officials to protect the parks and public-utility land.
Hydraa acted immediately after receiving these directions. Officials fenced all park areas and installed boards to secure them for the community. Residents expressed relief and said the long-standing violations finally ended.
