Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath directed officials to accelerate desilting works and ensure there was no flood threat during the monsoon. He issued the instructions after inspecting flood-prone locations and reviewing HYDRAA flood prevention measures across parts of Hyderabad on Friday.
The Commissioner visited flood canals leading to Khajaguda Lake near Gachibowli Chaurasta and reviewed the progress of canal restoration works. He also inspected areas near Preston Prime Mall where rainwater had accumulated earlier this season.
Officials showed him a box drain vent leading to Khajaguda Lake that was completely clogged with silt. Consequently, Ranganath ordered immediate desilting and reviewed the connecting flood canals. Officials informed him that earlier precautionary measures had prevented water stagnation during recent rains. They added that removing silt from two vents beneath the Old Bombay Highway would eliminate the remaining flood risk.
The Commissioner later inspected the underpass opposite AMB Mall at Kondapur Chaurasta after reviewing reports of recent waterlogging. Officials explained that two automatic water pumps had failed, causing the problem. Ranganath immediately instructed them to repair the pumps without delay.

Furthermore, the Commissioner directed officials to station HYDRAA’s 25 HP pumps at the underpass to prevent future flooding. He warned that waterlogging at key underpasses could disrupt traffic throughout Hyderabad’s IT Corridor.
He also instructed departments to continuously monitor flood canals and respond quickly wherever blockages or drainage issues emerged. Additional Commissioner Varlapappayya accompanied the inspection along with officials from the Traffic Police, CMC, and GHMC.
