Hyderabad: Three young women boxers from Hyderabad have qualified to represent Telangana at the upcoming national inter-college boxing championship in Punjab. The athletes earned their spots after excelling at the Osmania University Inter-College Boxing Championship held at Nizam College on Thursday.
Syeda Umme Kulsum (18) from St. Ann’s Women’s College qualified in the 54–57 kg category. Syeda Suraiya Maheen (19) from Anwarul-Uloom College advanced in the 51–54 kg category, while Shahjahan Osman (19) from Nizam College secured her berth in the 65–70 kg category.
All three train under senior coach Mohammed Sayeed at the Sports Coaching Foundation (SCF) in Masab Tank’s Chacha Nehru Park. They follow a disciplined schedule with training sessions twice daily, from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and again from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Coach Sayeed praised the athletes for their resilience and dedication. “Despite academic and personal challenges, these girls have stayed focused and committed to the sport. Their selection is a proud moment for me, their institutions, and Telangana,” he said.
Their qualification marks a major step forward in their boxing careers and brings recognition to Hyderabad’s emerging talent in women’s boxing.
