Hyderabad Task Force nabs bike thief, CCL; recovers four stolen bikes

Hyderabad: The West Zone Task Force of Hyderabad Police arrested a repeat bike offender and a child in conflict with law (CCL) in a series of vehicle thefts reported under the Cyberabad Commissionerate. These Hyderabad bike theft incidents led to the recovery of four stolen motorcycles worth ₹6.5 lakh from their possession.

The main accused, Merishetty Nageshwar Rao, 23, hails from Vidya Nagar in Nallakunta, Hyderabad. He is a known property offender and had previously been involved in similar crimes.

Offender used stolen bikes to fund online betting

According to the police, Rao developed an addiction to online cricket betting. To support this habit and live extravagantly, he joined hands with the CCL to steal two-wheelers. Their collaboration significantly impacted the issue of bike theft in Hyderabad.

Acting on a tip-off, the West Zone Task Force intercepted the duo on January 8, 2026, while patrolling the SR Nagar area. Based on the arrest, officers recovered the following vehicles:

  1. Honda Dio (TS08HP4286) – linked to Miyapur Police Station
  2. Yamaha R15M BSVI-PH2 (TS31K4448) – Miyapur Police Station
  3. Yamaha R15 (AP40AM0604) – Chanda Nagar Police Station
  4. Suzuki Avenis (AP39QF6843) – Gachibowli Police Station

Each vehicle was tied to criminal cases registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) between 2025 and 2026. The city of Hyderabad faced increasing bike thefts during this period.
