Hyderabad sanitation drive intensified across three municipal corporations

Hyderabad: Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao on Wednesday directed officials to accord top priority to the Hyderabad sanitation drive across Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri municipal corporations.

At a review meeting held at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat, he examined sanitation systems, garbage collection mechanisms and public health safeguards. The meeting followed directions from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He instructed officials to update sanitation data on a real-time dashboard. He also warned that the administration would not tolerate negligence.

Chief Secretary reviews Hyderabad sanitation drive measures

The Chief Secretary directed officials to intensify monitoring and submit periodic reports. In particular, he asked them to focus on segregation of dry and wet waste, plastic waste control and scientific disposal practices. He further called for regular maintenance of sewage treatment plants and advance cleaning of drainage lines ahead of the monsoon season. Consequently, departments were asked to strengthen coordination at field level.

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan informed the meeting that 4,500 Swachh Autos currently handled door-to-door garbage collection. He said 2,650 self-help groups supported the system with 18,557 sanitation workers. On average, the city generated and collected around 7,800 tonnes of garbage daily, he added.

Municipal Administration Secretary T.K. Sridevi, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, Cyberabad Commissioner Srijana and Malkajgiri Commissioner Vinay Krishna Reddy attended the meeting along with zonal commissioners and senior officials.
