Hyderabad police reinforce drug control measures

Hyderabad: Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said Hyderabad Police is adopting advanced systems to strengthen drug control measures across the city. He addressed a high-level coordination meeting on Friday at the TGSCCC in Banjara Hills with senior officials from the IB, DRI, NCB, Excise, Counter Intelligence, Eagle Unit and FRRO. He noted that narcotics networks pose a growing challenge; therefore, agencies must act together with greater urgency. Moreover, he stressed that regular intelligence sharing is essential to curb organised distribution and prevent new routes from emerging.

He explained that officers now track drug offenders and peddlers with the same intensity used for monitoring rowdy elements who threaten public order. Because of the rising demand for narcotics, enforcement teams need continuous vigilance. He added that coordinated field action remains crucial to blocking active supply channels across the city.

Hyderabad expands units to support stronger drug control measures

Sajjanar said the city is strengthening the Narcotics Enforcement Wing, known as H-NEW, to disrupt drug supply lines more effectively. In addition, he said four to five new teams will join existing units to increase operational capacity. Furthermore, he emphasised that eliminating narcotics is a long-term battle rather than a one-time operation. Therefore, he urged all agencies to maintain close cooperation and steady pressure on every part of the network.

He said the meeting reviewed the status of ongoing operations and identified areas where faster coordination could improve results. Consequently, police will hold a joint review meeting every month with all participating agencies to examine case progress and refine drug control measures. He noted that these steps will help sustain momentum and strengthen collective enforcement efforts.
