Hyderabad Police launch C-Mitra AI system to simplify cybercrime FIR registration

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar launched C-Mitra, a new AI-based initiative to simplify the registration of FIRs in cybercrime cases.

Under the system, cybercrime victims must first report fraud by calling the national helpline 1930 or by submitting a complaint on the cybercrime portal. After that, C-Mitra virtual police officers review the complaints using artificial intelligence tools.

Subsequently, the C-Mitra team contacts victims from the numbers 040-4189-3111 or mobile numbers starting with the 87126 series. Officials then send an AI-generated complaint copy to the victim through WhatsApp.

Victims must carefully verify the details and sign the complaint. They can submit it through courier, at a C-Mitra help desk, or via the drop box at the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police Station. Based on this submission, the police first register a zero FIR and then forward it to the concerned police station.

Afterwards, a cybercrime police officer contacts the victim and speeds up the investigation process.

C-Mitra aims to increase cybercrime FIR registration

Sajjanar said many cybercrime victims face hurdles while filing local complaints even after calling 1930. As a result, several victims hesitate to proceed further.

Due to this confusion, only about 18 per cent of cyber fraud complaints currently result in FIR registration. Therefore, the police introduced C-Mitra to ensure that every cyber cheating case gets an FIR.

During the trial run, the C-Mitra team registered FIRs in 86 complaints and provided relief to victims. Meanwhile, Sajjanar said the virtual police officers would work daily from 8 am to 8 pm.

Finally, he urged people within the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate limits to use the C-Mitra system. He said the initiative would help victims get faster legal support and quicker investigations.
