Hyderabad police crackdown targets rowdies, drugs

Hyderabad: To curb rowdy activities across the tri-commissionerates, the Telangana police decided to jointly monitor rowdy elements in Hyderabad, Rachakonda, and Cyberabad.

Hyderabad Commissioner of Police V. C. Sajjanar said senior officers from the three commissionerates recently met to frame a common strategy against rowdy sheeters. During the meeting, officers categorised rowdy sheeters and identified top offenders for joint surveillance.

Accordingly, the police prepared a shared database containing details of families, associates, hideouts, and properties of rowdy sheeters. Officers across the three commissionerates now access the data to maintain constant watch. Sajjanar said the move followed a series of crimes involving individuals listed as rowdy sheeters at various police stations.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police continued to face challenges from repeated incidents involving rowdy elements. Sajjanar said murder and attempted murder cases surfaced regularly. However, he clarified that these crimes did not involve hardened criminals. Instead, he said most murders arose from property disputes, extramarital relationships, or financial conflicts.

Earlier, the police conducted counselling sessions for rowdy sheeters. Since then, officers have maintained close surveillance and taken firm action against offenders. Sajjanar said the police would invoke the Preventive Detention Act against anyone disturbing public peace.

Hyderabad police crackdown expands to food adulteration and drugs

In addition, Sajjanar announced the creation of a specialised wing to tackle food adulteration in Hyderabad. The Anti-Food Adulteration Team will function under the supervision of a Deputy Commissioner of Police-rank officer. Moreover, the team will coordinate with the Food Safety Authority, GHMC, and other departments.

He said the unit would focus on preventing food adulteration and prosecuting offenders. Earlier raids exposed adulteration of milk products, garlic-ginger paste, chocolates, and tea powder. Therefore, the team will also probe complaints about abnormal price differences in milk packets.

At the same time, the Hyderabad police decided to strengthen the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing to combat drug trafficking. Sajjanar said the department would soon create a new cell to support investigations and court trials. An experienced officer will track each case to ensure follow-up.

Further, the narcotics wing will expand from two teams to seven teams to cover the entire city. Technical teams will support operations with data analysis and backend coordination. DCP Task Force and HNEW Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath said officers were compiling a consolidated database of individuals involved in drug cases.

Recently, officials held a coordination meeting with agencies including the Narcotics Control Bureau, Prohibition and Excise Department, Enforcement Directorate, Drug Control Administration, the EAGLE team, and Cyberabad and Rachakonda police. Through this effort, the police aim to strengthen enforcement and disrupt drug networks across Telangana.
