Hyderabad police arrest drug peddler and transporter, seize 50 grams MDMA

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), along with Chaderghat police, arrested a local drug peddler and a transporter in a joint operation on October 1. The team seized 50 grams of MDMA, ₹830 in cash, and two mobile phones. The total value of the seizure stood at ₹5.5 lakh.

Police identified the accused as Mohd Osman alias Abbu (33), from Bandlaguda, Hyderabad, and Rahul (23), a native of Kerala living in Bangalore. Consequently, Chaderghat police registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

Supplier in Bahrain linked to Hyderabad drug trade

Investigators explained that Osman, who dropped out after SSC, turned to drug peddling due to financial troubles. He contacted Ashwin Das Ramanth of Kerala, now living in Bahrain, through Instagram. Soon after, he began sourcing MDMA from Rahul in Bangalore. He bought it for ₹2,000 per gram and sold it in Hyderabad for ₹8,000–₹10,000. As a result, he earned high profits and funded what police described as a lavish lifestyle.

Rahul completed his BCA in Bangalore in 2024 and briefly worked at a restaurant. However, he quit after five months. Later, he started transporting drugs for Ashwin. Acting on instructions received through WhatsApp, he collected consignments from dead drops arranged by foreign suppliers. He then delivered them to Osman in Hyderabad for a commission.

Moreover, police revealed that Ashwin managed the supply chain from Bahrain. He coordinated payments using online transfers and provided QR codes to his associates.

Police issue warning on rising drug menace

Officials warned that educated youth and unemployed graduates are increasingly entering drug trafficking for easy money. Therefore, Hyderabad police urged parents to monitor their children’s activities more closely. They also appealed to the public to share any information on drug abuse with H-NEW at 8712661601.

Finally, police confirmed that Inspector G.S. Daniel, SI C. Venkata Ramulu, and their team from H-NEW carried out the arrests. They worked with Chaderghat SHO Brahma Murari Kasani and his staff.
