Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar on Friday launched the AI-powered smart kiosk SETU at Mehdipatnam Police Station as a pilot project. The system will help citizens lodge complaints in their preferred language and digitally track their grievances.
The initiative aims to make the first interaction at a police station easier for citizens approaching officers with grievances. It is designed to identify complaints at the reception and guide petitioners towards the next stage of the process.
Using artificial intelligence, the kiosk digitally records a petitioner’s statement in the language they are most comfortable using. This feature is intended to remove language barriers while reporting grievances at the police station.
The system also issues a digital acknowledgement immediately after receiving a complaint. It then provides information about the next steps, reducing the need for petitioners to wait for long periods at the reception.
Each registered application will have a dedicated digital tracking mechanism. Senior police officers can review the progress and action taken at different stages until the grievance is resolved.
Police said faster complaint registration could also save time for personnel at the station. Officers could then devote more attention to crime control and investigation.
Sajjanar said public welfare was the highest priority of the policing system. He said every person approaching a police station should be treated with respect and receive proper attention.
“Citizens must feel that trust right from the reception counter, which is the first point of contact in a police station,” Sajjanar said.
AI kiosk SETU could expand to other police stations
Explaining the name, Sajjanar said SETU means a bridge and represents an effort to strengthen trust between citizens and the police. He said technology was being used to make civic services faster and more transparent.
The Commissioner said the performance of the pilot project at Mehdipatnam Police Station would be assessed. Based on its results, SETU kiosk services will be extended in phases to all police stations under the jurisdiction.
Sajjanar also urged Hyderabad residents to use the new facility and provide suggestions and feedback. He said the inputs could help make the policing system more public-centric.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Tafseer Iqbal, IPS, attended the launch. DCP SMIT Avinash Kumar, IPS, and Golconda Zone DCP J. Raghavendar Reddy were also present.
Developer Amit Singh, Additional DCP Krishna Gowd, ACP Srinivas and SHO Mallesh attended the programme along with other police officers.
