Hyderabad: The LB Nagar Special Operations Team and Nagole Police arrested two Andhra Pradesh men after seizing 14.2 kg of Hyderabad hashish oil worth Rs.1.75 crore.
Police said the joint operation had exposed an alleged interstate drug trafficking operation. The arrests took place on August 21 during vehicle checks at Gowrelly X Road in Nagole.
Officials said they had received credible information that two persons were carrying hashish oil towards Hyderabad on a motorcycle. Acting on the information, the teams intercepted the vehicle and detained the two men.
Police identified them as Thalle Nagaraju, 30, and Nagula Narayana alias Kiran, 39. Both men hailed from Alluri Sitarama Raju district in Andhra Pradesh.
The teams seized 14 packets containing hashish oil from their possession. They also recovered two mobile phones, a Yamaha MT-15 motorcycle and Rs.2,500 in cash.
Hyderabad hashish oil allegedly sourced from Odisha
During interrogation, the accused allegedly told police that Tamara Gopal of Malkangiri district in Odisha had supplied the Hyderabad hashish oil. According to police, Gopal had allegedly handed them two bags containing about 7 kg of hashish oil each.
The accused allegedly had instructions to transport the bags to Hyderabad for delivery. Police said the supplier had promised each accused Rs.1 lakh for carrying the contraband.
Investigators were examining where the consignment originated and who was expected to receive it in Hyderabad. They were also trying to establish whether other people formed part of the alleged trafficking network.
The alleged supplier, Tamara Gopal, remained absconding. Police launched efforts to trace him and determine his role in the supply chain.
Accused faced earlier NDPS cases
Police said both arrested men had previous cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Those earlier cases involved ganja, according to officials. Investigators were reviewing their previous records as part of the latest case.
Nagole Police registered a case under the NDPS Act following the seizure. Further investigation focused on tracing the alleged supplier and identifying the intended recipients of the consignment.
Police were also examining the accused men’s mobile phones for possible links to other suspects. The seizure included 14.2 kg of Hyderabad hashish oil, which police estimated at Rs.1.75 crore. Officials said the quantity had been packed into 14 separate packets for transportation.
Senior officers supervised Nagole operation
Police said senior officers directly supervised and guided the operation. Malkajgiri Commissioner of Police B. Sumathi supervised the arrests and seizure. B. Anuradha, DCP, LB Nagar Zone, and K. Manohar, DCP, SOT, provided guidance during the operation.
Additional DCP SOT, LB Nagar Zone, Md Shakir Hussain also oversaw the action. P. Kasi Reddy, in-charge ACP of LB Nagar Division, participated in the supervisory process. Nagole Inspector Maqbool Jani and LB Nagar SOT Inspector K. Prathap Reddy led personnel involved in the field operation.
Members of the SOT team and Nagole Police also took part in the vehicle check and seizure. Police said the investigation would continue to trace the absconding supplier.
The teams would also identify the wider delivery network linked to the Hyderabad hashish oil consignment. Officials said further action would depend on evidence collected during the investigation.
