Hyderabad emerging as global investment destination, says Uttam Kumar Reddy

Hyderabad: Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday said Hyderabad is fast becoming a global investment hub, with the Congress-led Telangana government focusing on infrastructure development and investor confidence. He called on journalists to actively highlight the state’s progress and support its growth narrative through responsible coverage.

Speaking at a media awards function held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), the Minister credited Hyderabad’s rising investment appeal to the government’s consistent efforts to expand industrial and urban infrastructure. “We are attracting some of the world’s largest companies to Hyderabad and supporting those already here in scaling up operations,” he said.

He cited Hyderabad’s international airport, Outer Ring Road, Metro Rail, and major drinking water projects as foundational assets built by previous Congress administrations. “These were not accidental successes—they were created by visionaries. Today, we are taking this legacy forward with new projects like Future City, Skill University, and Metro Rail expansion,” he added.

Over the past year, Hyderabad has recorded a surge in investment activity. Global technology firms such as Google, Microsoft, Infosys, HCL, and Amazon Web Services have expanded their facilities. Meanwhile, companies including Amgen, Sanofi, FedEx, and the London Stock Exchange Group have launched new centres in fields such as biotechnology, logistics, and financial technology. “This shift in investor sentiment clearly shows Hyderabad’s transformation under the Congress government,” said Uttam Kumar Reddy.

The Minister said urban planning and liveability are receiving equal attention. “We are seriously addressing urban congestion and making Hyderabad more attractive for investors and residents alike. We welcome input from all sections—including the media—because we want this city to reflect the best of modern India,” he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy urged journalists to play a constructive role by covering the state’s transformation accurately and proactively. “The media is not just a witness to change; it is an enabler of change. Your reporting influences perception and progress,” he said, adding that the government values fair, balanced journalism.

He also emphasised that both the media and government must collaborate to serve public interests. “We are co-travellers in the journey of Telangana’s development. Our shared responsibility is to uplift the most vulnerable and ensure inclusive growth,” he noted.

The Minister highlighted the government’s welfare initiatives, particularly the distribution of fine rice. “Eighty-four percent of Telangana’s people now receive six kilograms of fine rice each month free of cost. That’s a massive step towards food security and social equity,” he stated.

Recognising the role of journalists in society, Uttam Kumar Reddy commended their contributions to India’s freedom struggle, the Telangana movement, and present-day accountability. “The media’s legacy of truth-telling continues. Despite daily challenges, journalists remain steadfast in serving society,” he said.

He assured media professionals that the current administration welcomes feedback and remains accessible. “Unlike the previous government, we are open 24×7. Constructive criticism is not only accepted—it is encouraged,” he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy called for joint efforts in building a more equitable and successful Telangana. “Let us move ahead together—as partners in progress, champions of truth, and defenders of justice,” he said.
