Hyderabad: Torrential and intermittent rainfall from Tuesday night to Wednesday afternoon disrupted normal life across Hyderabad and several Telangana districts, flooding roads, overflowing water bodies, and isolating villages.
Inundation was reported from Karimnagar, Warangal, Nizamabad, Mahbubnagar, Hanamkonda, and other cities, where key roads were submerged and low-lying colonies saw rainwater entering homes.
In Hyderabad, areas such as Sheikhpet (8.6 cm), Tolichowki (6.5), Langar Houz (6.2), Gachibowli (6.1), Serilingampally (5.8), Lingampally and Khajaguda (5.2), and several others, including Madhapur, Mehdipatnam, and Bahadurpura, recorded rainfall between 3 to 6 cm.
Venkatapur in Mulugu district received the highest rainfall with 36 cm over 26 hours. Other rain-hit areas included Eturunagaram (18 cm), Mangapet (15), Hanamkonda (14), Bhadradri Kothagudem (12), Suryapet (11), and several others ranging between 9 to 10 cm.
Waterlogging crippled traffic in Karimnagar, Manakondur, and Choppadandi, where key roads including the RTC workshop route and collectorate road were inundated. In Medak, flooding in a seasonal stream cut off connectivity to Doub Singh Tanda in Haveli Ghanpur mandal.
The Musi river’s water level surged dangerously due to persistent downpours, and officials warned that both Musi and Eisa rivers could cross danger levels if the rains continue. Several city lakes also recorded rising inflows.
IT corridor zones including Gachibowli, Madhapur, Hitec City, Miyapur, Kukatpally, Jubilee Hills, Uppal, and LB Nagar were among the worst affected. Several IT companies advised employees to work from home.
The Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board deployed emergency response teams overnight to drain water from flooded locations. Disaster Response Force teams were also stationed at key junctions and flyovers to manage rainwater and traffic disruptions.
Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors, avoid low-lying areas, and contact local officials in case of emergencies.
