Heavy inflows prompt gate operations at Jurala and Sagar projects

Hyderabad: Authorities lifted multiple gates at the Jurala and Nagarjunasagar projects on Tuesday following massive flood inflows caused by heavy rains and upstream water releases.

At the Jurala Project in Jogulamba Gadwal district, inflows touched 3.42 lakh cusecs. Officials responded by lifting 42 gates to release 3.16 lakh cusecs downstream. The reservoir’s full water level is 318.51 metres, and its maximum storage capacity is 9.657 TMC. As of now, the reservoir holds 8.790 TMC.

Meanwhile, floodwaters from Srisailam continue to reach Nagarjunasagar. The project is receiving 3.57 lakh cusecs. To manage this, officials have raised 10 gates by 5 feet and 16 gates by 10 feet, releasing the full inflow volume.

Power generation is ongoing at both the left and right bank hydropower stations. While Nagarjunasagar’s full reservoir level stands at 590 feet, the current level is 586.70 feet. The project can hold 312 TMC in total, of which 303.94 TMC is presently stored.
