Harish Rao condemns Khammam demolitions in Velugumatla

Hyderabad: BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao slammed the government over the Khammam demolitions in Velugumatla Vinoba Nagar and accused it of targeting poor families under heavy police cover.

In a statement issued on Saturday, he said authorities deployed police personnel from four districts and created a war-like atmosphere to pull down houses. He questioned whether such action reflected democratic governance in Khammam or a police-driven administration.

According to him, families in Khammam built their homes by taking loans and saving money over the years. Using massive police force to raze those houses amounted to cruelty, he alleged.

Khammam demolitions trigger political showdown

Referring to the developments in Khammam, Harish Rao alleged that officials blocked media access to prevent public scrutiny. He claimed the government feared exposure of what he described as arbitrary demolitions.

He targeted Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, stating that they had promised housing schemes during elections. Instead, he charged, the government demolished existing homes in Khammam.

Victims, he said, now stood on the streets without prior notice or alternative arrangements. Demolishing houses without rehabilitation showed injustice, he added.

Harish Rao demanded that the government immediately halt the demolitions in Khammam and withdraw the police force. He asserted that BRS would stand by the affected families until authorities delivered justice.

He warned that public anger in Khammam would intensify if the government ignored the grievances of the poor. Without offering rehabilitation, he said, officials should not disturb even an inch of land belonging to displaced families.
