Harish Rao slams CM over crisis in Telangana Gurukuls

Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Sunday accused the Congress government of neglecting Telangana’s Gurukul educational institutions. He said the once-celebrated model had now fallen into disrepair. He cited delays in staff salaries and a sharp rise in student safety concerns.

Furthermore, Harish Rao said that students in Gurukuls were dying from preventable causes. These included fever, food poisoning, snake bites, rat bites, and dog attacks. He blamed the decline on administrative apathy under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership.

In addition, he pointed out that 2,500 contract and outsourcing staff had not been paid for two months. “Instead of making symbolic gestures on Teachers’ Day, the Chief Minister should ensure timely salaries,” Rao said. However, he alleged that the CM’s earlier promises to supervise food quality and punish violations have yet to be fulfilled.

Harish Rao contrasted the current situation with the Gurukul reforms led by former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao. He said the number of institutions grew from 294 to 1,024, while student enrolment rose from 1.9 lakh to 6.5 lakh. He described KCR’s education spending as capital investment and said Gurukuls once gained national recognition.

Finally, claiming that the reputation of Telangana’s Gurukuls had collapsed in just 22 months of Congress rule, Harish Rao urged the Chief Minister to act without delay. “It’s time for the CM to open his eyes and act,” he said.
