Former minister Harish Rao has criticized the Telangana government for allegedly neglecting farmers by failing to release funds for canal land acquisition, leading to irrigation challenges in Siddipet district.
HYDERABAD: In a recent address near Choudaram in Siddipet district, former minister Harish Rao accused the Telangana government of neglecting farmers by not releasing funds for canal land acquisition. He highlighted that, despite water availability in various projects, the government is deliberately withholding water from farmers. This situation has forced farmers to dig canals at their own expense to irrigate their crops.
Rao emphasized that allocating ₹20 crore for canal land acquisition could bring more land under cultivation, benefiting the agricultural community. He criticized the current administration for undermining the Kaleshwaram Project, initiated during the BRS government’s tenure, describing it as a boon for North Telangana. Rao asserted that the project has attracted significant investments to the state.
He also pointed out that the government has failed to fulfill its promise of providing water to 52,000 acres in the Siddipet constituency, leaving farmers in distress. Rao’s remarks underscore the ongoing debate over the state’s commitment to agricultural development and the welfare of its farming community.
