Hyderabad, January 27: Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Harish Rao has lashed out at the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of repeatedly backtracking on promises made to the public, especially farmers. In a series of remarks, Harish Rao criticised the administration’s handling of welfare schemes, particularly the delayed implementation of the loan waiver and farmer support initiatives.
Rao highlighted that the Congress government had promised to waive farmer loans immediately after assuming power on December 9, 2023. However, the implementation was postponed to August 15, 2024, and later further delayed until Dasara. “Even now, over 20 lakh farmers have not received their loan waivers,” he alleged.
He also criticised Congress leader Revanth Reddy for making exaggerated promises during the elections. “During the election campaign, Revanth Reddy promised Rs. 15,000 under the Rythu Bharosa scheme if taken after December 9, compared to Rs. 10,000 before. But the Kharif season Bharosa has been missed, Sankranti promises for Yasangi were delayed, and now the deadline has shifted to March 31,” Rao stated.
Drawing comparisons, Rao claimed that under KCR’s leadership, the Rythu Bandhu scheme consistently supported farmers, while the Congress government failed to provide any reliable support. He also criticised the delays in other welfare promises, such as the Aasara pensions, gold for women, monthly allowances for women, Vidya Bharosa cards, two lakh jobs within a year, and unemployment allowances.
In a tweet, Harish Rao sarcastically remarked, “Only Indiramma knows what happened to these promises in Indiramma Rajyam.” The comment reflects growing political tension between the BRS and Congress as allegations of mismanagement continue to mount against the current administration.
Observers note that the delayed rollout of welfare schemes has become a significant point of contention in Telangana politics, with farmers and unemployed youth expressing growing dissatisfaction with the government’s performance.
