Former Minister Harish Rao and BRS leaders staged a protest at the SLBC office after being denied permission to inspect the tunnel accident site where eight workers remain trapped. Authorities later allowed their visit following the demonstration.
HYDERABAD: Tensions flared at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) office in Achampet on Thursday as former Minister Harish Rao and other Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders staged a sit-in protest. The demonstration erupted after officials denied them permission to inspect the site of the ongoing tunnel rescue operation, where eight workers have been trapped for six days.
Harish Rao, accompanied by former ministers Srinivas Goud, Niranjan Reddy, Dr. C. Laxma Reddy, and former MLA Guvvala Balaraju, attempted to visit the accident site to assess the situation firsthand. However, police imposed restrictions at multiple checkpoints, permitting only a select group of former ministers, ex-MLAs, and five other leaders.
As the group neared the tunnel site, further restrictions were enforced, preventing them from proceeding. Frustrated by the government’s handling of the situation, the BRS leaders staged a sit-in in front of the SLBC office, chanting slogans demanding transparency and efficiency in the rescue efforts.
Following the protest, officials relented and granted the leaders permission to visit the tunnel site.
