Hyderabad: BRS MLA T. Harish Rao accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy threatened voters by saying government schemes would stop if they did not vote for Congress. He asked whether the Chief Minister was distributing money from his home or from the public exchequer.
Speaking at the “Meet the Press” event at Somajiguda Press Club on Friday, Harish Rao said the Congress government had failed to deliver on its promises and was now resorting to fear tactics. “People’s money belongs to the people. Revanth Reddy has no right to misuse it for votes,” he said.
Harish Rao accuses Revanth Reddy of scaring voters in the Jubilee Hills bypoll
Harish Rao said Revanth Reddy’s fear of defeat in the Jubilee Hills by-election was forcing him to threaten citizens. “After two years of Congress misrule, people will teach him a lesson,” he said. He warned that if Congress wins this bypoll, the state would face three more years of “political torment.”
He compared ten years of KCR’s rule with two years of Revanth’s leadership, saying the former brought progress while the latter caused “destruction.” Rao also criticised the Chief Minister for failing to fulfil even one promise made during the Cantonment by-election. “Where are the 6,000 Indiramma houses and the ₹23 crore sports complex he promised?” he asked.
Harish Rao questions Congress’s promises and minority comments
The BRS leader accused Revanth Reddy of dividing people along religious lines. “He says Muslims exist because of Congress. Where was Congress when Muslims fought for India’s freedom?” he asked. Rao demanded that Revanth Reddy apologise to the Muslim community for his comments.
He added that roads in Cantonment were filled with potholes and that streetlights had vanished. “Congress destroyed the constituency after coming to power,” he said. Furthermore, Rao accused the Chief Minister of hypocrisy for suddenly showing concern for minorities only because of the Jubilee Hills election.
He also reminded that BRS pressure had forced the Congress government to give a Cabinet berth to a minority leader. “These sudden gestures are not generosity but fear of losing political ground,” he said.
Congress is blamed for past neglect and current failures
Harish Rao also targeted the Congress for ignoring senior leaders. He alleged that the party denied a Cabinet berth to former minister P. Janardhan Reddy (PJR) and caused his downfall. “Now, with elections nearing, Revanth Reddy suddenly remembers PJR and NTR,” Rao said.
He added that BRS questioning had forced Congress ministers to take to the streets in damage control. “The Congress government has failed to govern, failed to fulfill promises, and failed to respect democracy,” he said.
