Hyderabad: Former minister and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao on Thursday accused the ruling Congress of deceiving Backward Classes (BCs) over the 42% reservation issue. He alleged that the party was staging political dramas to mislead voters ahead of the upcoming local body elections.
He challenged Congress’s past record on BC rights. “Has the Congress ever supported BC reservations despite holding power at the Centre for 55 years?” he asked. He urged state Congress leaders to prove their sincerity by convincing the party’s Delhi leadership.
BCs quota issue sparks political war of words
Harish Rao said the BRS remains ready to cooperate on the reservation issue. However, he claimed the Congress is repeating old tactics by making hollow promises to the BC community.
He also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. Instead of lobbying in Delhi for the last 22 months, the CM has focused on street-level theatrics, Rao alleged. Citing the Congress’s Kamareddy Declaration, he said the CM avoided securing a legal framework to guarantee the quota. “Issuing a GO was just another drama to delay the local polls,” he remarked.
Harish Rao demanded that the Chief Minister lead an all-party delegation to Delhi. He said the goal should be to get the quota law passed in Parliament and added to the Ninth Schedule. He affirmed that the BRS would continue to fight for the rightful share of BCs.
