Hanumantha Rao slams BJP over OBC ministry demand

Hyderabad: Former MP and senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao on Sunday criticised the Modi-led government for ignoring the interests of backward classes through its eleven-year rule. He pointed out that despite meeting the Prime Minister three times with a demand to create a separate OBC ministry, there had been no progress.

Speaking at Gandhi Bhavan, Hanumantha Rao informed that senior Congress leaders would hold a meeting in Karnataka on the 15th of this month to discuss OBC upliftment. Rao said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had personally invited him to attend.

Questioning BRS MLC Kavitha’s call for a rail roko protest, he argued there was no logic in agitation if the 42% reservations she demanded were already being implemented, suggesting protests should happen only if those promises were denied.

Hanumantha Rao described the recent Samajika Nyaya Samarabheri Sabha as a grand success and said AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge had directed that cases against party workers be withdrawn.

He also told the PAC that loyal Congress workers who had struggled for the party for years should be given organisational positions.

Hanumantha Rao also conveyed greetings to the people of Telangana on the occasion of the first Ekadashi and Peerla Panduga.
