Hyderabad: The Telangana government will boost civic infrastructure in Hyderabad to keep pace with the city’s rapid expansion. District in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced this on Friday.
He made the statement while inaugurating the Chikkadpally–Domalguda link bridge. This bridge connects both localities across the Hussain Sagar surplus nala. The ₹6 crore bridge, built by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), aims to improve traffic flow in central Hyderabad.
Prabhakar noted that Hyderabad has become the country’s largest city by area and population. This change followed the merging of municipalities within the Outer Ring Road.
Civic amenities in Hyderabad to expand with growing population
“The government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is implementing integrated plans to meet infrastructure needs,” he said. “Roads, stormwater drains, streetlights, parks, and civic services must grow with the population.”
Travel time from Chikkadpally to Ashok Nagar, Domalguda, Liberty Junction, the GHMC office, and the Secretariat is now expected to reduce by half.
Senior officials, including Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, MLA Muttha Gopal, Deputy Mayor Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, and GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, attended the event. Others present included Zonal Commissioner Ravi Kiran and project engineers from GHMC.
Prabhakar stressed the importance of involving all public representatives to deliver better civic amenities. He said Hyderabad’s role as the state capital demands focused planning and urgent infrastructure upgrades.
Residents expressed satisfaction with the new bridge, saying it has resolved long-pending travel issues across the nala.
