Governor visits Saifabad Mint Museum, stresses preservation of monetary heritage

Hyderabad: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla visited the Saifabad Mint Museum on Wednesday and emphasised the need to preserve and showcase India’s monetary and economic heritage for future generations.

The museum operates under the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL). It houses historical coins, minting equipment and exhibits that trace the evolution of coin production in India.

During the visit, the Governor examined displays featuring coins from different periods, coin manufacturing processes and machinery used in minting operations.

Dr. Ramakant Dixit, Chief General Manager of India Government Mint, Hyderabad, briefed him on the museum’s history and coin production methods. He also explained the significance of various categories of coins and the tools used in their manufacture.

The Governor showed keen interest in the rare exhibits and vintage minting equipment displayed at the museum.

During the programme, the Governor watched a documentary that highlighted more than a century of coin production in India.

Officials also presented details about the restoration and redevelopment of the Saifabad Mint Museum through a PowerPoint presentation.

The presentation explained the museum’s collections and outlined the role of India’s coin manufacturing institutions.

Officials further highlighted the importance of preserving historical records related to the country’s monetary system and minting history.

Shiv Pratap Shukla said museums of this nature played an important role in educating students and young people about India’s history.

He noted that such institutions also helped visitors understand the evolution of the country’s economic system over time.

Furthermore, the Governor appreciated the efforts undertaken to preserve and present India’s rich numismatic legacy in an engaging and accessible manner.

He said initiatives like the Saifabad Mint Museum strengthened public awareness of the country’s historical and economic heritage.
