Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla unveiled MLC Surabhi Vani Devi’s book on medicinal plants and traditional knowledge. Titled “Ghanam – P.V. Vanam”, the publication also highlights environmental conservation and India’s plant heritage.
The launch took place at the Swami Ramananda Tirtha Memorial premises in Begumpet on Friday. The Surabhi Educational Society and the Swami Ramananda Tirtha Memorial Committee jointly organised the event.
Telangana Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Banda Prakash and former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav attended the programme. During the event, Vani Devi, daughter of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, spoke about environmental protection.
She said rapid urbanisation, indiscriminate tree felling and pollution were threatening ecological balance. Her father’s interest in medicinal plants had inspired the publication. Through the book, she aimed to preserve information about their properties and uses for future generations.
Medicinal plants and traditional knowledge take centre stage
Congratulating Vani Devi, Governor Shukla said development must go hand in hand with environmental protection. Accordingly, he urged people to plant and nurture trees. He also called for greater awareness about the medicinal value of Tulasi and other natural resources.
The Governor also paid tributes to P.V. Narasimha Rao. In this context, he recalled the former Prime Minister’s contribution to India’s economic transformation through landmark reforms and globalisation policies. Furthermore, Shukla said Rao’s leadership had laid the foundation for progress in industrial, technological and commercial sectors.
Former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav also called for wider public participation in tree plantation and environmental protection. Additionally, he highlighted the medicinal benefits of commonly grown plants.
The programme stressed the need to conserve India’s medicinal plant heritage. It also called for passing traditional knowledge on to future generations.
