Hyderabad: Governor Jishnu Dev Varma called upon citizens to uphold constitutional values while paying tributes to freedom fighters on the occasion of Republic Day on January 26, 2026.
In his Republic Day message, the Governor recalled India’s freedom struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi through non-violence. He said the sacrifices of countless martyrs resulted in Independence on August 15, 1947. He added that the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950, marked India’s transformation into a sovereign republic.
Further, the Governor said the Constitution laid the foundation for democracy, secularism and equality. Therefore, he urged citizens to safeguard justice, liberty, fraternity and constitutional morality. He noted that Republic Day symbolised unity despite India’s cultural, linguistic and religious diversity.
Republic Day message highlights Telangana’s democratic journey
However, the Governor said Telangana followed a different historical course after Independence. He recalled that the Nizam’s rule continued even after 1947. Consequently, the people of Telangana rose against the monarchy and established democracy. He said this historic victory occurred on September 17, 1948, in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the Governor said the present people’s government commemorated the occasion in a befitting manner. He noted that the State government, formed two years ago under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, delivered people-centric governance in a short time. Moreover, it launched the Telangana Rising-2047 Vision Policy to mark its second anniversary.
He said the vision aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 goal. The policy aimed to build a three-trillion-dollar Telangana economy by 2047. In turn, this would support India’s target of a 30-trillion-dollar economy. He added that the vision document was unveiled at the Telangana Rising Global Summit-2025 held at Bharat Future City.
During the summit, investors signed agreements worth over ₹5 lakh crore with the State government. As a result, the projects promised large-scale employment. The Governor said the government adopted a three-tier development model covering Hyderabad, peri-urban regions and rural agricultural zones. Finally, he highlighted Telangana’s efforts in social empowerment through SC sub-caste classification and a comprehensive socio-economic survey. He concluded by wishing peace, prosperity and happiness to the people of the State and the nation.
