Hyderabad: A tragic accident claimed the life of a GHMC sanitation worker after he fell into a waste-clearing machine at a dumping yard in the city during the early hours of Saturday. In fact, this GHMC worker dies incident has shocked the local community.
The incident occurred around 5 am at the Yousufguda dumping yard in Hyderabad. The worker was engaged in clearing garbage when the door of a waste-laden lorry malfunctioned. Sadly, this is not the first time a GHMC worker dies due to such hazardous working conditions.
As the worker attempted to manage the situation, he slipped. Consequently, the waste-processing machine pulled him inside. Fellow workers noticed the accident and rushed to help. However, by the time they managed to pull him out, he had already died. Thus, another GHMC worker dies during routine sanitation work.
GHMC worker death sparks protest by sanitation staff
Officials identified the deceased as a native of Pagidirai village in Duggali mandal of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh. He had been working at the dumping yard for several years. The news that a GHMC worker dies while performing duties has led to widespread concern.
Following the incident, GHMC sanitation workers staged a protest at the dumping yard. They alleged negligence by Ramky, which manages operations at the site.
The protesting workers demanded justice for the deceased. They also insisted on safety measures and accountability. Moreover, they said they would not resume duties until the management addressed their concerns.
Police and GHMC officials reached the spot and attempted to pacify the workers. Meanwhile, authorities said they had begun an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the accident.
