Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan on Thursday directed full GHMC support for HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring & Protection) during the monsoon, stressing coordination to minimise public inconvenience.
In a joint meeting held at GHMC headquarters with HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, Karnan emphasised HYDRAA’s primary responsibility in disaster response. GHMC engineers and ward-level staff must provide technical, logistical, and manpower support to HYDRAA across all city zones, he said.
He highlighted GHMC’s role in maintaining open drains (D‑silting), upkeep of new sampuls, and sharing water retention data from lakes with HYDRAA to alert residents in low‑lying areas.
Commissioner Ranganath outlined HYDRAA’s responsibilities, including maintenance of 11 underpasses and flyover drainage. He added that HYDRAA will carry out de-silting of catch pits and safety audits. He requested GHMC’s assistance in providing staging points at ward levels to facilitate the removal of silt.
The session was attended by zonal commissioners Anurag Jayanti, Apurva Chauhan, Hemant Sahadevara, Ravi Kiran, Venkanna; Chief Engineer Ratnakar; Projects Chief Engineer Bhaskar Reddy; Lakes Chief Engineer Koteswara Rao; DFO Paparao and others.
