GHMC launches drive against footpath encroachments in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: GHMC launched a crackdown on footpath encroachments across the city, targeting illegal structures to improve pedestrian safety.

Authorities carried out the drive in all six zones, focusing on both permanent and temporary encroachments. Teams used heavy machinery, including JCBs, to remove obstructions from public pathways.

The civic body prioritised busy roads and high-footfall areas during the operation. In particular, officials cleared stretches near Gandhi Hospital and key junctions across the city.

Officials identified several locations for regular enforcement. These include Maheshwari Parmeshwari Theatre area, Sultan Bazar Road and Kacheguda junction.

Moreover, authorities said special drives will take place every Saturday to ensure sustained action. They added that continuous monitoring will help prevent re-encroachments.

The GHMC stated that the initiative aims to restore pedestrian access and improve traffic movement. Meanwhile, officials said enforcement teams will continue operations in other identified stretches.
