Hyderabad: Senior officials from GHMC and the Defence Ministry on Saturday met at the GHMC headquarters to speed up land transfer for the proposed alternative road network around the AOC Centre in Secunderabad.
The high-level coordination meeting was chaired by GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan and Brigadier S.K. Chetti, Director, Land Legal, Defence Ministry. The discussion focused on handing over 42.20 acres of Defence land for the H-City road infrastructure project.
The Telangana government has already sanctioned ₹960 crore for the project, and tendering processes are expected to begin soon. Defence officials reiterated that, under prevailing rules, land transfer would require compensation with equal-value land in return.
Commissioner Karnan said the road network would decongest traffic around Secunderabad Cantonment and improve connectivity for commuters. GHMC will ensure timely execution of the alternative roads in consultation with the Defence Ministry, he said.
The new strategic road corridors are expected to reduce civilian traffic through restricted Defence zones while maintaining operational access for armed forces.
Those present included GHMC Chief Engineer (Projects) Bhaskar Reddy, Secunderabad Zonal Commissioner Ravi Kiran, Chief City Planner Srinivas Rao, Deputy Special Collector (Land Acquisition) Ram Nayak, Project EE Rohini, and from the AOC Centre, Staff Officer (Land & Legal) Visu Sundaresh and Naib Subedar Shabbir Khan.
