Hyderabad: Telangana’s construction industry received a resounding vote of confidence from IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, who assured builders of full government support at a youth conference hosted by the Greater East Zone Builders Association (GEBA) in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering at Hotel Jubilee Park, Nagole X Roads, Sridhar Babu called the construction sector the backbone of Telangana’s economic engine. “Hyderabad recorded a staggering 56 percent year-on-year rise in commercial space absorption last year — the highest in the country,” he noted. “Another 1.8 million square feet of retail space was leased, reflecting the growing faith investors have in Telangana’s market.”
The Minister highlighted the sector’s economic clout, pointing out that construction and real estate collectively contribute nearly 30 per cent to the state’s Gross State Value Added (GSVA). “This industry directly and indirectly supports the livelihoods of nearly a million people,” he said. “It also sustains allied sectors like steel, cement, and interior design.”
Sridhar Babu credited the industry’s growth trajectory to robust investor confidence since the state’s formation. “Telangana’s real estate has attracted consistent investment since 2014, reinforcing the sector’s strategic importance,” he remarked. “Currently, over 9,679 real estate projects and 4,252 agents are registered with RERA in the state.”
The Minister urged young builders to embrace innovation and eco-friendly practices to drive progress. “We need to think beyond traditional methods to cut construction costs and deliver value to end-users,” he said. “Young builders must take the lead in shaping a modern, sustainable construction sector.”
As Minister for IT and Industries, my priority is to attract investments and create jobs for Telangana’s youth. We’ve secured ₹3 lakh crore in 18 months and are positioning Hyderabad as a global tech and AI hub. We’re also bridging the skills gap through the Young India Skills… pic.twitter.com/YElRCwGGkZ

Looking out at the audience, Sridhar Babu reminded the youth that their work goes far beyond brick and mortar. “The structures you build are more than just buildings — they are the pillars of Telangana’s future,” he declared.
The conference was also attended by MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy and prominent GEBA Youth Wing members, including Vikram Kumar, Meghana, Akshay, Mahesh, and others.
