Serial fraudster held for duping job-seekers with fake Cantonment Board offers

Hyderabad: A 36-year-old man with a history of fraud was arrested by the North Zone Task Force and Trimulgherry police on charges of cheating job-seekers with fake promises of positions in the Cantonment Board.

The accused, identified as Kollapuram Sravan Kumar of Bowenpally, is a repeat offender with no steady job, police said. He’s accused of preying on desperate job-seekers by dangling fake promises of roles like Food Inspector and Election Supervisor, collecting hefty sums before vanishing without a trace.

Investigators said Sravan Kumar had been booked for similar scams at multiple police stations in Hyderabad, including Begumpet and Bowenpally, stretching all the way back to 2019, and continuing right up to this year. Despite previous arrests, he continued to defraud people, evading authorities until now.

In one case on September 14, 2024, Sravan Kumar allegedly took ₹22,000 from a woman named Srilekha, claiming he could secure her a Food Checking Inspector post. Other victims included Pavan (₹35,000), Srinivas (₹20,000), Vishal (₹32,000), and Sai Krishna (₹50,000)—all promised government jobs that never materialised.

Police linked Sravan Kumar to at least five cases registered at various stations, including Trimulgherry, Begumpet, Bowenpally, and Vemulawada. Officers also seized a Vivo Y mobile phone believed to have been used in his scams.

The operation was led by P. Raghavender, Inspector of Police, Task Force, along with G. Nagaraju, Inspector of Police, Trimulgherry PS, and other members of the North Zone Task Force.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Hyderabad City, Y.V.S. Sudheendra, confirmed the arrest, saying the accused had developed a “habitual pattern” of cheating unsuspecting victims. He added that the police are determined to crack down on such fraudsters.
