Hyderabad: A Fast Track Special Sessions Court in Jagityala sentenced five men to life imprisonment in a POCSO Act case involving the gang rape of a minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 on each convict and directed that the victim receive Rs. 12 lakh as compensation.
Fast Track Special Sessions Court Judge Ratna Padmavati delivered the verdict on Wednesday after examining the evidence and hearing witness testimonies. The court found all five accused guilty of the charges against them.
The convicted men are Lokini Rajesh (22), Darangula Saikumar (21), Mogilipaka Anil (19), Kunchepu Shiva (19), and Kunchepu Venkatesh (22).
Court delivers verdict in POCSO Act case
According to the police, the then Metpally Sub-Inspector Sadakar registered the case at Metpally Police Station in October 2020 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police accused the five men of gang-raping a minor girl within the Metpally police station limits.
During the trial, the prosecution submitted documentary evidence and examined witnesses before the court. After reviewing the evidence, the judge convicted all five accused and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
The court also directed the authorities to pay the victim Rs. 12 lakh as compensation, in addition to the punishment imposed on the convicts.
