Hyderabad: The Telangana government issued an official clarification through the Fact Check Telangana X handle, rejecting a news report published in Namaste Telangana on February 6, 2026, on initiatives of the School Education Department and terming it misleading.
In a statement, Dr E. Naveen Nicolas, Director of School Education, said the report created avoidable confusion. He said the department issued a detailed rejoinder to refute the claims and place correct facts on record. Therefore, the clarification aimed to ensure accuracy, transparency, and proper public information.
The department said the Union government directed all states to strengthen school education by using infrastructure created by premier digital education platforms. Accordingly, the Telangana government has been implementing initiatives by optimally using existing digital infrastructure in government schools. Officials said the partnered platforms had strong academic credibility and proven national and global impact.
The department also said the spread of false information confused students and teachers. Moreover, it alleged that such reports attempted to derail constructive educational programmes, making clarification necessary.
Telangana govt outlines reforms, digital initiatives in school education
Outlining key initiatives for 2025–26, the government said it introduced facial recognition-based attendance for students, teachers, and staff. In addition, academic panel inspections covered all government and local body schools. The state also upgraded infrastructure in KGBVs, including civil works and the upgradation of 93 schools as Institutes of Excellence, along with IIT, NEET, and EAPCET coaching.
Further, the department strengthened foundational literacy and numeracy through special workbooks for Classes I to V. It also introduced special SSC coaching with subject-wise material for Class X students. Besides this, officials upgraded science laboratories, supplied lab manuals, and launched Scout and Guides and school band programmes in 1,000 schools.
Meanwhile, the government implemented an online billing system for mid-day meals from November 1, 2025, to ensure timely payments. Teacher empowerment measures included promotions since December 2023 and the recruitment of 10,006 teachers through DSC 2024. The state also provided free electricity to all government schools and released sanitation grants to Amma Adarsha Patashala Committees.
On digital education, the department supplied 19,800 tablets to primary and upper-primary teachers. It also established 3,565 computer laboratories between 2023 and 2025. Internet connectivity now reaches all schools through BSNL and T-Fibre.
Finally, the government clarified that it entered only non-financial partnerships with reputed edtech organisations. Under these, EkStep Foundation provided its AI-powered AxL PAL platform for foundational literacy and numeracy in over 1,000 schools. Similarly, Khan Academy offered free digital learning for Classes VI to X. In addition, Physics Wallah provided free IIT, NEET, and EAPCET coaching content. The department said students and parents paid no charges, and feedback remained positive.
