Hyderabad: Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Monday called upon officers of the Prohibition and Excise Department to work responsibly and strengthen the department’s public image.

The Minister made the remarks after the State government approved promotions for 53 officers in the excise department, ranging from Assistant Excise Superintendent to Additional Commissioner level.

Following the decision, representatives of the Telangana State Gazetted Officers’ Association met Jupally Krishna Rao and expressed gratitude. They said they had waited for several years for promotions and welcomed the transparent process adopted by the government.

Addressing the promoted officers, Jupally Krishna Rao said promotions should motivate officials to perform with greater commitment. At the same time, he said higher positions demanded stronger accountability and discipline.

Excise department promotions followed by a strict enforcement drive

Meanwhile, the Minister urged officers to intensify action against adulterated liquor, illicit liquor and narcotics. He specifically asked officials to curb ganja cultivation, spurious toddy production and illegal liquor transportation.

Furthermore, he instructed officers to enhance surveillance mechanisms and utilise technology to expedite investigations. As a result, he said offenders should face punishment without delay.

At the same time, Jupally Krishna Rao stressed the need for transparent functioning. He warned that the department must leave no room for corruption at any level.

Moreover, the Minister said protecting youth from falling prey to drugs remained a shared responsibility. Therefore, he asked the Excise Department to take continuous and proactive measures in coordination with enforcement agencies.

Additional Commissioners S. Y. Qureshi and Suresh Rathod, Deputy Commissioners J. Harikishan and Chandrayya, Assistant Commissioners D. Srinivas, Pradeep Rao, Jyothi Kiran, Panchakshari and R. Kishan, along with Excise Superintendents A. Kishan, Tukya Naik, Jeevan Kiran and others attended the meeting.
