Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy blamed the controversial Dharani Act for the downfall of the BRS government, calling it a “draconian” law that jeopardised farmers’ land rights.
Speaking at an appointment letter distribution event for newly recruited revenue surveyors on Sunday, Revanth said the Dharani system allowed arbitrary land control by a select few. He claimed that public outrage over land issues was central to the Assembly election results. “We promised to scrap Dharani, and we did it as soon as we took office,” he said.
Dharani Act BRS downfall: Revanth calls land issue central to Telangana politics
Revanth said land has always been at the heart of Telangana’s struggles, including the armed peasant movement. “For us, land is like a mother. We will not let anyone snatch it from the rightful owners,” he added.

He also criticised the previous BRS government for failing to issue job notifications. In contrast, he said, the Congress government has begun filling vacancies and bringing hope to the unemployed. “We can now see joy in their eyes,” Revanth remarked.
Urging surveyors to act with integrity, the CM warned of consequences if they made mistakes affecting landowners’ rights. He appealed to officials to work towards the state’s long-term economic vision.
