Hyderabad: Over 1,200 cycling enthusiasts participated in the second edition of “Cyclothon – Pedal for the Planet” held on Sunday at Rashtrapati Nilayam. The event aimed to raise awareness about fitness and environmental sustainability.
Organised by the Hyderabad Cyclists Group and sponsored by the National Mineral Development Corporation, the event began with a Zumba session and featured a 20-kilometre route from Rashtrapati Nilayam to Secunderabad Parade Ground and back via SH-1 (Rajiv Rahadari). Participants included defence and police personnel, students, and members of local cycling groups such as the Hyderabad Bicycling Club and KNR Bicycling Group.
The cyclothon was flagged off inside the Rashtrapati Nilayam campus by badminton champion and Padma Bhushan awardee Saina Nehwal, along with Maj Gen Ajay Mishra, General Officer Commanding, Telangana Andhra Sub Area.
Over 900 riders joined as cyclothon promotes fitness
Participants took a collective pledge to support environmental conservation and healthy living. Approximately 900 cyclists across various age groups completed the route, underscoring the campaign’s message of greener, healthier urban lifestyles.
Following the ride, attendees were given a guided tour of Rashtrapati Nilayam, highlighting its historical significance and heritage. According to Dr K. Rajani Priya, Estate Manager, the initiative aligned with the President of India’s vision to bring citizens closer to the Presidential Retreats and deepen national connection.
