Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police have launched an initiative called Operation Smile–XII, a month-long special drive to trace missing children and rescue vulnerable minors across the Cyberabad Commissionerate. This marks an important phase for Operation Smile–XII, focusing on child welfare.
To review preparations, officials held a meeting at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate auditorium. During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Women & Children Safety Wing, Srujana Karnam, said the operation would run from January 1 to January 30 under the banner of Operation Smile–XII.
Operation Smile–XII Focus on rescue and rehabilitation
According to DCP Srujana Karnam, the drive will focus on tracing missing children. It will also target minors forced into begging, rag picking, child labor and human trafficking, all under the framework of Operation Smile–XII.
Further, she said the police would ensure proper rehabilitation. For this purpose, officials will work closely with other departments and voluntary organisations.
As part of the drive, the Cyberabad Police formed 12 special teams. Each team includes a Sub-Inspector and four constables. One woman constable is part of every team. These teams will carry out field checks in identified areas.
To strengthen tracing efforts, police will use facial recognition through the ‘Darpan’ mobile application. This tool will help identify missing children quickly as part of Operation Smile–XII. It will also help reunite them with their families.
Meanwhile, officials stressed the need for strong coordination. Representatives from child welfare committees, labour, health, child protection units, and voluntary groups attended the meeting. They assured support for rescue, care, and follow-up.
Officials from the Women & Child Safety Wing, Child Welfare Committees of Ranga Reddy, Medchal, and Sangareddy districts, labour and health departments, district child protection units, and anti-human trafficking units also participated.
