Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 333 offenders during a weekend Cyberabad drunk driving enforcement drive carried out across the commissionerate. The offenders will be produced before the court.
Police registered cases against 269 two-wheelers, 11 three-wheelers, 51 four-wheelers and two heavy vehicle drivers during the special enforcement campaign.
Among those apprehended, 262 offenders recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 50 offenders registered BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml. In addition, 21 offenders recorded BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.
Cyberabad drunk driving offenders face legal action
Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. They warned that anyone causing a fatal accident while driving in an intoxicated condition would be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Police said the offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
Meanwhile, courts disposed of 232 Cyberabad drunk driving cases between July 27 and August 1. Of these, three offenders received both a fine and jail sentence, six were awarded a fine along with community service, while 223 were punished with fines only.
