Hyderabad: During a weekend crackdown, Cyberabad drunk driving enforcement teams booked 296 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol. To curb violations, the Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a special drive across key locations and checked vehicles across all categories.
Of the total cases, police booked 231 two-wheelers, 17 three-wheelers, 47 four-wheelers, and one heavy vehicle. Based on blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels, 259 offenders recorded BAC levels between 35 and 200 mg/100 ml. Meanwhile, 26 individuals showed BAC levels between 201 and 300 mg/100 ml, while 11 recorded levels above 301 mg/100 ml. Authorities will produce all violators before the court.

Meanwhile, police warned that drunk drivers involved in fatal accidents would face prosecution under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Under this provision, courts can impose up to 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
In addition, between January 19 and 24, courts disposed of 215 pending drunk driving cases. Of these, five offenders received both jail terms and fines. Further, courts assigned eight offenders social service along with fines, while 202 offenders paid fines alone.
Cyberabad Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards drunk driving and, therefore, urged citizens to act responsibly and avoid endangering lives on the road.
