Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted special Cyberabad drunk driving checks over the weekend and apprehended 97 offenders. Police booked cases against 76 two-wheelers, five three-wheelers, 15 four-wheelers and one heavy vehicle.
According to the blood alcohol concentration levels, 79 offenders recorded BAC readings between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 12 offenders recorded levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml.
Meanwhile, six offenders recorded BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml. All 97 offenders will be produced before the court, according to Cyberabad Traffic Police.
Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol constituted a serious offence. Police warned that drivers involved in fatal accidents while in an inebriated condition would face action under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Cyberabad drunk driving checks and court action
Section 105 deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, according to the police statement. The maximum punishment under the provision is 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine.
In addition, police reported that courts disposed of 89 drunk driving cases during the week from September 21 to 26. Three persons received both a fine and jail sentence, while one person received a fine and social service.
The remaining 85 persons received fines only. Cyberabad Police reiterated the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol as part of its enforcement measures.
