Hyderabad: AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday credited Congress party workers and leaders with securing victory in Telangana, saying their efforts alone brought down the BRS and prevented the BJP from capturing power in the state.
Addressing a social justice rally at LB Stadium as chief guest, Kharge reminded the crowd that BRS leaders had once boasted no one except KCR would rule Telangana, while BJP circles claimed they would form a government with central backing. He said Congress activists pushed back and defeated all opposition, ensuring the party’s return to power.
Kharge said the development benefits under the new government were reaching all social sections, and insisted party workers remained the backbone of the Congress. He recalled that during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, he sensed the ground was shifting toward Congress in Telangana.
He underlined the contribution of previous Congress administrations, which brought major central institutions to Hyderabad and strengthened the capital’s status.
Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge questioned what had happened to the ₹15 lakh per head promise made to citizens from recovered black money. He accused both Modi and Amit Shah of misleading the public with empty slogans.
Kharge highlighted Telangana’s progress in education and agriculture under Congress, and pointed to free power, free bus services, and free premium-quality rice being distributed to people. He contrasted this with the previous government’s sale of rice, saying Congress ensured people actually received food, not mere promises.
He announced plans to introduce a Rohith Vemula Act in educational institutions across Telangana, and cited the state’s caste census as a national model, reaffirming the commitment to extend reservations for backward classes.
Kharge urged leaders and workers to take the “Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan” campaign to every household in the state, describing it as a mission for the next phase of social justice outreach.
