Congress fears BJP rise ahead of municipal polls: Ramchander Rao

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Saturday accused the ruling Congress of spreading misinformation about the Centre’s new employment legislation, claiming the party was alarmed by BJP’s rising public support ahead of the municipal polls.

Speaking at the BJP state office after releasing the “BJP Telangana State Diary,” Rao defended the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar – Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025. He described the Act as a strengthened version of MGNREGA, designed to boost rural employment with extended workdays.

He alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was misleading the public by opposing the Act. “Both the Congress and BRS have exposed their anti-people governance. Now they are working together to spread false propaganda against the BJP,” he said.

Rao demands PM’s photo on ration bags, warns of protests

The BJP leader also objected to the Congress government’s handling of the Centre’s free rice scheme. He accused the state of distributing ration bags without displaying the Prime Minister’s photograph and demanded it be made mandatory on all bags and receipts. If not, he warned, the BJP would stage statewide protests.

Earlier in the day, Rao offered prayers at the Shiva Temple in Osmania University to mark “Somnath Swabhiman Parv.” He said the occasion honored sacrifices made to protect the Somnath Temple, a symbol of India’s civilisational and spiritual continuity.

He recalled that the temple was rebuilt in 1951 under the leadership of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and said 2026 would mark 1,000 years since Mahmud of Ghazni’s attack on the shrine, which he described as an assault on Indian faith and culture.

BJP leaders Vemula Ashok, N.V. Subhash, Venkat Reddy, and Taduri Srinivas were also present at the event.
