Congress backs Operation Sindoor, slams false portrayal on Doordarshan: MP Kiran Kumar Reddy

Hyderabad: Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday strongly condemned attempts to malign the Congress party’s image during the ongoing Operation Sindoor, accusing certain quarters of wilfully distorting the party’s position on national security.

Speaking at Gandhi Bhavan, Reddy expressed outrage over a segment aired on the state-run Doordarshan channel that allegedly showed photos of Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Pratap Singh in a context suggesting the party was opposed to India’s anti-terror operations.

He said the Indian National Congress has filed a defamation suit over the broadcast, terming it a deliberate act aimed at damaging the party’s reputation at a time of national military engagement.

“The Congress party fully supports India’s anti-terror action against Pakistan. We’ve stood with the armed forces not just in words but on the ground,” Reddy stated, pointing to rallies held nationwide under the Congress banner to show solidarity with the defence forces. He added that in Telangana, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy himself led a rally alongside the armed forces.

He stressed that Congress sees the military as an institution beyond party lines and backs its decisions unequivocally.

Reflecting on India’s war history, Reddy noted that of the four wars fought with Pakistan, Congress was in power during three: in 1947 under Nehru, in 1971 under Indira Gandhi—leading to the creation of Bangladesh—and in 1999, during the Kargil conflict under the Vajpayee-led NDA government, when Congress extended its full cooperation.

He highlighted the participation of two women officers, Sophia Qureshi and Yuvika Singh, in Operation Sindoor, calling their roles in striking Pakistan targets a moment of pride for the nation.

Reddy also referenced a recent alert by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who suggested Pakistan’s military provocations may be linked to IMF-related developments—specifically, a $7 billion loan decision expected on April 25. He hinted that Pakistan might be using heightened tensions as leverage.

He concluded by asserting that Congress, regardless of circumstances, always hopes for the safety and well-being of Indian citizens during times of conflict.
